Overview
Kumrat is still one of the quieter northern valleys, and the accommodation reflects that — riverside camps rather than hotels. For anyone who has done Naran and Hunza and wants somewhere with fewer vehicles, this is the obvious next trip.
The walk up to Jahaz Banda meadow is the centrepiece: about three hours on foot or by horse from Thal, with Katora Lake a further steep climb for those who want it.

Where you stay
Riverside camp sites in Kumrat with shared washing facilities, and one hotel night at Dir or Thal on the way out. Camping here is comfortable but genuinely camping.
How you travel
Coach from Islamabad to Thal, then 4x4 jeeps for the valley track, which is unpaved throughout.
Meals
Cooked breakfasts and dinners at camp. Options are limited — let us know about dietary requirements when booking.
Important information
The Jahaz Banda walk is around three hours uphill. Horses can be hired at Thal for those who prefer to ride.
Nights at camp are cold even in July, and there is no mains electricity. Bring a warm sleeping layer, a head torch and a power bank.
Mobile coverage is very limited in the valley.
Cancellation policy
Deposits secure your place and cover costs we commit to on your behalf. Our standard terms are:
- More than 30 days before departure — the deposit is retained, the balance is refunded in full.
- 15 to 30 days before departure — 50% of the package price is retained.
- Fewer than 15 days before departure — the package price is non-refundable.
Airline tickets, visa fees and non-refundable hotel bookings follow the supplier's own rules, which we will set out in writing at the time of booking. Where a trip cannot proceed because of road closure, weather or a decision by the authorities, we will offer a rescheduled departure or refund whatever we can recover.
