Kumrat Valley Camping
Four days of deodar forest and riverside camping in Upper Dir, with the walk up to Jahaz Banda.
Five days to the meadow beneath the Rupal face, with a day walk towards Nanga Parbat base camp.
Fairy Meadows is not reached by road, and that is the point. From Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway a jeep track climbs to Tato; from there it is a two to three hour walk to the meadow at roughly 3,300 metres, directly facing Nanga Parbat.
We spend two nights at the meadow so there is a full day for the walk to Beyal Camp and on towards the base camp viewpoint. Accommodation is in wooden huts — simple, warm enough, and in a location no hotel could match.
North on the Karakoram Highway along the Indus, overnight at Chilas.
Hotels in Chilas at either end of the trip; wooden huts at Fairy Meadows with shared bathrooms and no heating beyond blankets and a stove. This is basic mountain accommodation and we would rather set that expectation clearly than have you discover it on arrival.
Coach from Islamabad to Raikot Bridge, then local jeeps on the Tato track — a narrow, exposed road driven by local drivers who know it. The last stretch to the meadow is on foot or by horse.
Simple, freshly cooked meals at the meadow: breakfast and dinner included. Options are limited at altitude — tell us about dietary requirements when you book.
This itinerary involves a walk of two to three hours uphill at altitude, carrying a day pack. A reasonable level of fitness is needed. Horses can be hired at Tato for those who prefer not to walk.
Facilities at the meadow are basic: shared bathrooms, limited electricity, and no mobile signal. Bring a power bank, a head torch and warm layers — nights fall below freezing even in July.
The Raikot jeep track is unpaved and exposed. If you are uncomfortable with heights, this is worth knowing before you book.
