Neelum Valley Kashmir Discovery
Five days following the Neelum River from Muzaffarabad to Kel, with the meadow walk at Arang Kel.
Azad Jammu & Kashmir · Pakistan
A long, forested river valley running north-east from Muzaffarabad, dotted with wooden villages.
The Neelum Valley follows its river for around 240 kilometres from Muzaffarabad towards Taobat, close to the Line of Control. It is one of the most consistently beautiful drives in Pakistan — dense forest, waterfalls at the roadside, and villages of carved wooden houses.
Keran and Sharda are the usual overnight stops. Sharda holds the remains of a Sharada Peeth temple and university site dating back well over a thousand years. Beyond Kel, a jeep track climbs to the meadows of Arang Kel, reached by chairlift and a walk.
Because parts of the valley run close to the Line of Control, travel here follows local advice on the day; our operations team confirms access before every departure.
Muzaffarabad is about four hours from Islamabad. The valley road is narrow and slow — allow a full day to reach Kel. Mobile coverage is patchy above Sharda.
