Murree & Galiyat
The closest hill stations to Islamabad — pine ridges, chairlifts and an easy weekend escape.
About Murree & Galiyat
Murree and the Galiyat sit on a forested ridge about two hours from Islamabad, which is precisely why they are busy. Nathia Gali, at 2,500 metres, is the pick of them: cooler, greener and considerably quieter than Murree itself.
The Pipeline Track between Nathia Gali and Dunga Gali is a level forest walk of about four kilometres with views towards Nanga Parbat on the clearest days. Ayubia National Park protects much of the surrounding forest.
This is the right destination for a short break or a first trip with young children — everything is close together and the roads are good.
Things to do
- Walk the Pipeline Track to Dunga Gali
- Ride the Ayubia chairlift
- Spend an evening on Murree Mall Road
- Drive the Galiyat road to Thandiani
Getting there and around
Two to three hours by road from Islamabad on good highway. Expect heavy weekend traffic in summer and during snowfall.
